Dividing opinions, as they are wont to do, you can’t get away from the fact that the Behringer UB-Xa has delivered a polyphonic analogue synth for the masses. Coming in at under €1300, the bang for buck factor on this synth is pretty impressive.

Sixteen voices, polyphonic aftertouch, the ability to “age” the circuits and some nice wooden end cheeks make the UB-Xa something that is hard to ignore. And as these units are selling like hot cakes it wasn’t long before the incredible sound design community was churning out new content for it.

Here’s a selection of some of the best sounding that I found. You are very welcome!

Limbic Bits Dusk for Behringer UB-Xa

We’ve covered the work of Limbic Bits before and it is always of the highest quality. With this pack, they have steered clear of what many others are doing and come up with a far more contemporary sound set covering Techno, Dub and Ambient styles, to name but a few.

Given the UB-Xa’s obvious inspiration, many sound designers are focusing on creating patches for it that resemble the time that the original inspiration existed, namely the 1980s. Nothing wrong with that, in my very humble opinion. However, it’s great to see someone trying to push this synth outside of those clichés.

Dusk includes 64 brand new sounds with pads being the dominant style. There are also bass, leads, FX and Dub chords, as well as several sequences. All of these are installed into Bank A so make sure you’ve backed your existing presets up.

The ‘Atrophy’ setting on the UB-Xa is akin to the ‘Vintage’ setting on some other synths. It recreates certain characteristics of ageing analogue circuitry and all of Dusk’s patches carry a number that indicates the best Atrophy setting for that particular patch.
