Although Strymon is known for the quality of its effects pedals, the manufacturer has pivoted neatly by offering plug-in versions of pedals like the Deco saturator/double-tracker and the BigSky reverb.

So far the approach has been to capture the sound character, but to expand the interface with DAW-friendly features that make the effects more versatile. With this in mind, we’re excited to try out this latest offering, the El Capistan and DIG Plugins.

More Information

There are still three different tape simulation modes, including single mode, fixed mode, and multi-mode. However, with each tape machine emulation, there are mode-specific controls in the main window to change the tape speed, head distance, and head configurations.

Other new controls include tape crinkle, low-end contour, and tape bias. With DAW sync mode and this extended feature set, the El Capistan sound is likely to find its way into a wider range of musical styles.
