A couple of months ago, Ginger Audio released Ground Control, a new audio routing app that facilitates sending audio from one app to another on a Mac. GroundControl Caster takes the concept to a whole new level. The app is specifically tailored to the audio routing needs of podcasters, streamers and screencasters.
In a way, the concept is similar to stand-alone podcasting studios like the RodeCaster Pro, PodTrak P8 or Flow8, but on your computer. You can bring in audio streams from up to eight applications, such as DAWs, conferencing and chat apps or web browsers. Three physical inputs for microphones or other external audio devices are also available.
In addition to a level control, each channel offers three insert slots for AU plug-ins. This means that you can add effects without having to run your audio through a DAW or other application to do so.
Two output busses
Using the A and B buttons, each channel can be assigned to one of the two output busses (or both). Via these busses and the associated virtual drivers, you can send the A and B mixes to physical outputs and/or other applications for recording or streaming. Each output bus offers another insert slot and a level control and meter. The monitoring section lets you select bus A or B for monitoring via your Mac’s physical outputs or headphones.
With a simple and straightforward interface that brings all your inter-app audio streams and external devices together in one place, GroundControl Caster looks like it can solve many of the typical routing problems that can arise in live streaming scenarios.
