Peavey Robert Randolph Signature PowerSlide guitar – Looks like a spaceship!
A portable slide guitar that looks very unique
The new Peavey Robert Randolph Signature PowerSlide guitar looks at first glance a little like a 1950s style spaceship, it is however, a cleverly designed slide guitar that can be worn standing up by using a special Y strap guitar strap.
Ergonomic
The PowerSlide is designed to be used standing up and the whole oddball design enables you to do exactly that, rather than playing seated or being stuck on a stand. So with this unique redesign you have movement and prowl up and down the stage whilst playing sweet slide guitar licks!
It’s a single pickup design with basic controls for volume and tone. It has a big square neck-thru design and is made of mahogany that is all one piece, with basswood wings.
I’ve included a video demo of the regular non-signature Powerslide guitar below, so you can see how it is worn. Basically you would normally play it like a Dobro or lap steel guitar, using either a steel or a even a brass / glass slide and in an open tuning, but now you can do so standing up as well.
New Signature model
This new version is a signature model for Robert Randolph and has his name emblazoned on the front, yet to me looks almost identical to the original Peavey Powerslide.
So I’m not sure if there are actually any major differences between the original model and this new one, other than the inclusion of an added single coil pickup in the neck position with a ‘variable coil mode’ and upgraded hardware (which isn’t specified) but I could be wrong as the Peavey site is pretty vague.
Still if you play slide then this could be just what you are looking for, but it looks a bit like space aged shovel to me. If you haven’t heard Mr Randolph play I suggest you check him out, as he is pretty tasty on slide.
RRP $499 – no UK pricing at time of writing
