The new Lehle RMI Basswitch Dual Band Compressor pedal has been specifically designed to place studio quality compression into a pedal format and exclusively for bass guitars. With two studio quality compressors in one compact pedal.

Dual Band

The pedal has a simplified user interface (fewer knobs) and it achieves this by attaching controls like attack and release to one dial, therefore making it easier to dial in your compressed bass tones. Lehle makes claims on their site of the controls acting intelligently and therefore this allows them to place two quite a complex compressors into a simple pedal format.

Ease of use is always great, so long as you don’t sacrifice control. However, I welcome a simplified front end as long as it works.

There are variable compression ratios from 1:1 up to 10:1 and the RMI Basswitch Dual Band compressor has a soft knee character which should complement a bass. It is still fast enough to allow for more percussive playing styles, but that soft knee should mean it will still sound natural and not forced.

Blue Glow

The blue LED light on the front of the pedal glows brighter the harder the compression is pushed.  Which is a nice simple way of showing you quickly how much compression you are applying to your effected bass signal.

Typically on a studio compressor, of course, you would have some form of metering to show this instead, but there just isn’t enough room here to fit this type of readout.

Bypass

The RMI Basswitch Dual Band compressor can be switched between either a buffered or a true bypass setting when the pedal is not engaged.

Both settings have their own advantages with buffered usually being better for longer signal chains with more effects in them, whereas true-bypass is often better for shorter less cluttered effects boards, using shorter cable lengths. So it is good to have the option of choosing either.

I would suggest taking a look at the video below as even though it is short I think it gives a good overview of the RMI Basswitch Dual Band compressor.
