Optx, Injectr and Eqx5 modules coming soon from Boredbrainmusic
Boredbrainmusic debuts their first Eurorack modules with the Optx ADAT interface, Injectr instrument interface and Eqx5 stereo EQ.
New modules from Boredbrainmusic
You may be more familiar with their pedal-focused boxes that offer experimental routing of effects and modulation for both guitars and synths, but Boredbrainmusic is on a bit of a Eurorack mission. They’ve recently announced three modules that cover ADAT-to-modular, instrument-to-modular and a nice bit of EQ.
Optx
Very simply it’s an ADAT encoder/decoder for Eurorack which takes 8 channels of light-pipe to and from your audio interface directly into your modular system. The idea is to let you integrate CV generating software like Bitwig Studio with your Eurorack letting modulations flow through the ADAT-to-DC Coupled interface. You can also go the other way to send modulations from your rack into software. Or you can use it for 8-track audio recording neatly to your computer or other ADAT compatible device.
It’s something people have been doing with Expert Sleepers modules for quite some time but they’ve always frustrated me in not being quite complete, like the ES-3 or not having everything I need in an audio interface like the ES-8. With the Optx it’s a straight 8 channels in either direction in a compact module. Looks like a much simpler solution to me.

Injectr
Injectr is a modular interface for guitar or other electric instruments that lets you plug in your instrument and flow the signal through your Eurorack. It extracts the envelope of your input along the way and has both envelope and gate outputs. The centre section includes an amp simulator with Presence, Character and Drive knobs to work that sound. A nice touch is the FX Send and Return connections and a Line Out so you can route your guitar through some Euroack based effects and back out to your main system.

EQX5
This is a 5-band stereo voltage-controlled EQ. We don’t tend to have a lot of EQ in Eurorack as perhaps it’s seen as something you’d fiddle with once you’ve recorded your modular sounds. However, the EQX5 gives you a way of controlling the frequency range of part of your rig without using up filters or having to process in your DAW. Could be great at removing some of the fog that too much modular can generate.
It’s a stereo module but it looks like it can take a mono input and gives you both a separate 2-channel stereo output and a combined one. It could get very interesting playing with the voltage control.
