Not the sort of thing we usually cover on Gearnews but DSP Action is rather fascinating and could be used for all sorts of creative activities beyond doing sound design for action movies, destroying things in video games or spicing up your latest YouTube performance.

It all kicks off with 96 highly specialised sound generators that you can evoke depending on the type of sound effect you’re after. You’ve got categories such as Cracks, Explosions, Gore, Ice, Wall, Rock, Plastic, Shards and all sorts of materials that form the basis of the action. Each one has a graphical algorithmic interface that uses shapes and lines to trigger elements within the sound engine. The density, orientation, size and position of these graphical objects can be manipulated to push it into a vast array of possible variations.

You are literally drawing a pathway through the cracks in the pavement, or the edge of broken glass or through clouds of particles, swooshes of sound and contours of tone. It’s a load of fun to play with and capable of all sorts of exciting hits, splats and crashes.
