Two new finishes for the Ernie Ball Music Man Mariposa
And a new lightweight Okoume body
Ernie Ball Music Man has just updated its Mariposa model from 2019. The Omar Rodríguez-López signature guitar is now being offered in a new Galaxy Pearl and Sahara Sunset finish for 2021. But that’s not all.
Ernie Ball Music Man Mariposa
The new finishes aren’t the only updates to the Omar Rodríguez-López signature guitar. Apart from the new Galaxy Pearl and Sahara Sunset finishes being offered for 2021, we now have a lightweight Okoume body, whereas originally, it was lightweight African Mahogany. It’s an interesting swap for the main body wood. They are the same family, so potentially tonally very close to each other. I suspect that the Okoume may just be easier to source in the quantities needed to manufacture this model, especially if Ernie Ball Music Man specifically wants lightweight pieces for the build.
You still get the roasted maple neck with its ebony fingerboard, plus those pearlescent style block inlays.
Hardware and Pickups
All hardware on these models is finished in gold and consists of a Music Man Modern tremolo and a set of Schaller M6-IND locking tuners. Both guitars come with the Ernie Ball Music Man Modern humbuckers, albeit now with gold covers. Each pickups has its own individual volume control as standard.
Slight Price Increase
The price for these two new colour options is slightly higher than the standard colour options, which normally retail for $2999, which is likely due to the gold hardware. I think the two new colour options look great, and even though I’m not normally a huge fan of gold hardware, I think it complements these two new finishes really well.
RRP – Galaxy Pearl and Sahara Sunset USD 3099
