Bill Finnegan, designer of the Klon Centaur, is doing a YouTube livestream
The pedal designer made the announcement via Instagram
Yes, you heard that correctly! The elusive Mr Bill Finnegan, creator of the Klon Centaur Professional Overdrive pedal, is doing a livestream on his new YouTube channel this Friday. He also promises “some listening”, and an update he thinks “will be of interest”. But what could he mean?
Klon Livestream
The new official Bill Finnegan Instagram post reads as follows;
“Hi everyone – letting you all know about the first Klon livestream event, which will happen on the newly-created Klon YouTube channel this coming Friday September 3rd at 9:30pm ET: some listening, and then an update that I think will be of interest.”
Mr Cryptic
If you don’t happen to follow Bill’s work, he designed and built the original Klon Siberia Centaur Professional Overdrive pedal. You may know them as Klons, or that ‘Horsey pedal’, and that the original units now sell for ridiculous sums of money. Let’s face it, Bill has never been great at self-promotion. His early website was full of overly large images which did not lineup, and minuscule text which looked very cryptic, and alluded to some kind of new overdrive pedal design.

The Goop
Bill was also famous for hiding his original circuit under what was dubbed ‘goop’. It took many years for people to reverse engineer his circuit, as they first had to safely remove all that black epoxy without damaging the components.
A ’90s Classic
I had many a conversation with him via email when I purchased my first few Klon pedals back in the late ’90s and early 2000s, and he is a genuinely nice guy and super helpful. Though I do remember him interviewing customers before he would sell them a pedal. You had to have a decent setup if you were considering buying his Klon pedal back then.
KTR News?
Of course, since then he has built the occasional original-style Klon pedal, to help out a friend (you can read about it in the description in his eBay listings). He also launched the KTR version of the Klon, although those have now been out of stock everywhere since late 2020. Maybe we will get an update on their production?
There has not been an official Klon demo, talk or video from Finnegan himself for many years, so this could be an announcement worth watching. Set your alarms for Friday 3 September 9:30pm ET, as I’m sure he has something interesting to share, and I know that I would really like to hear what he has to say!
