Nordstrand Pickups Bonecrusher is a massive humbucking hex pickup based around an oversized Alnico 5 magnet, so expect something with pretty high output and focused in tone. Part of the company’s Signature Series of pickups, these US-built boutique pickups are aimed at a more modern, high-output sound.
Crushing Tone
The idea seems to be to make a high-output humbucker with more of a push in the mid frequencies. Nordstrand has put an oversized Alnico 5 pickup at the heart of the Bonecrusher and paired it with a set of hex screw polepieces on both coils to help achieve that big output.
Available in both 50mm and 53mm spacing, the Bonecrusher can also be coil split thanks to its four-conductor wiring, so it is a flexible modern humbucking pickup.
If you need more powerful mid-focused tones than the more traditional PAF can achieve, then perhaps these Bonecrusher pickups could be what you need. It is hard for me to comment on them subjectively, as I have never tried their pickups and have yet to find any decent audio demos to listen too.
