Superbooth 2021: Fred’s Lab ZeKit 4-voice paraphonic synth kit
Cool, colourful and full of zest, Fred’s Lab is releasing ZeKit at Superbooth; a 4 voice paraphonic synth in a little box.
ZeKit
This is the first synth to emerge from Fred’s Lab since the dashing TÖÖRÖ appeared last year. This one is a bit simpler, smaller but still full of character.
It has 4 voices of polyphony running digital waveforms through a single VCA and analogue filter. It uses Additive Sawtooth synthesis with 8 mono and 8 para waveforms. There are two ADR envelopes with their knobs front and centre and you also get a filter cutoff knob and Accent. The Accent will have something to do with the internal 96-step sequencer. The filter section has an option for low or bandpass filtering and an intriguing switch where you can choose “Chill” or “Acid” for the filter resonance response. Another switch brings in external audio to mix into the filter.

Build it yourself
ZeKit will be available as a kit – hence the name – and will be priced very affordably. Frédéric hopes the accessibility of the kit will give beginners something to get their teeth into. It comes with a 30-page assembly guide and detailed explanations of how everything works. All the designs are provided under Creative Commons and Open Source licenses.

The pricing for the kit is €129 and includes everything you need to build it. If you really can’t handle the idea of DIY then you can pick up a built one for €179. They should be available on the 1st of October.
