After a positive response to Windows 11 in the wider tech community, the Microsoft Surface Event 2021 unveiled 8 hardware devices and accessories across the Surface product range. There’s plenty to digest here, so let’s get to it. Whether you’re a Microsoft Teams, 365, Gamepass user, or simply a producer or musician with a keen eye for tech, there’s certainly something for you. All of the new tech is geared towards Windows 11 integration and coincides with the October 5th release date.

Surface Pro 8: Microsoft’s latest 2-in-1 Surface device comes with a 13-inch touchscreen PixelSense Flow Display. Both Dolby Vision and Adaptive Lighting are supported, as the sensors adapt to the lighting and adjust the color temperature accordingly. The refresh rate also adapts between 60 and 120 Hertz depending on the input. This allows tasks requiring touch or pen operation to achieve smooth, precise movement across the surface.
Essential accessories such as the Surface Slim Pen 2 and the Surface Pro Signature Keyboard are available separately. The Surface Slim Pen charges in its own uniquely designed storage bay within the keyboard. In use, the Surface Slim Pen provides natural feedback vibration via the haptic motor creates a similar feel to drawing or painting. Configurable with a choice of 11th-Gen Intel quad-core i5 or i7 CPUs, the Surface Pro also has a 5.0MP 1080p and a 10MP 4K camera, and its i/o consists of two USB-C® with Thunderbolt™ 4 ports. Starting at $1,099.99, the Surface Pro 8 is configurable with up to 32GB RAM with a 1TB SSD and claims to offer up to 16 hours of battery life.

Surface Laptop Studio: This certainly stole the show at the Microsoft Surface Event 2021. A 14.4-inch Microsoft Surface Laptop, supporting up to an 11th Gen Intel i7 quad-core processor and up to 32GB RAM. Starting at $1599,99 for the basic configuration, the Surface Laptop Studio offers power and flexibility, with the ability to convert from a laptop to a tablet, or even somewhere in-between. Connectivity includes two USB 4 ports with Thunderbolt™ 4, WiFi 6, and the integrated charging bay for the Surface Slim Pen 2, which isn’t included. The laptop weighs just over 1.73 kg which is light, considering the functionality offered. It also comes standard with Nvidia’s RTX 3050 Ti GPU with 4GB VRAM, giving it really impressive capabilities on paper. Of course, we’re all wondering what the DAW performance will be like in a live or studio environment, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Surface Duo 2: Microsoft has certainly narrowed its focus to correct anything that was sub-par in the first Surface Duo design. The new Surface Duo 2 dual-screen phone now has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor and a new three-lens camera. When opened, the dual screens provide 8.3 inches of combined working area. The new Surface Duo is 5G network-enabled, and also has a neat feature allowing you to check up on notifications and battery life even when the device is closed. The Surface Duo 2 is priced at $1,499.99, aiming squarely at the premium smartphone market.
Surface Go 3: Now equipped with a choice of the newer Intel Pentium Gold 6500Y or Core i3-10100Y processors, the Go 3 offers a little more value at a really affordable $399.99. In addition, the higher-spec Surface Pro X also has some new configurations available, starting at $899.99.
