The new MXR Deep Phase goes beyond one knob phasing
Taking the classic Phase 90 and going deeper
MXR knows a thing or two about phase pedals and its one-knob wonder, the Phase 90, is a stone-cold classic. The company has now introduced its new Deep Phase, this time with two knobs, for a new phase.

This new orange pedal is based on the iconic vintage phase circuit and brings it into the 21st century. The new MXR Deep Phase is described as being crystal clear with a very pronounced swoosh, along with a scooped midrange, and a more dynamic, almost voice-like response to your playing dynamics. I do enjoy a good phase pedal and this new one intrigues me, but at the time of writing, I have yet to find any audio demos of this new pedal. Therefore, I’m going to have to go with the official description and hope that it builds on the classic Phase 90 circuit.

Going Deeper
The Deep Phase has a Speed knob that adjusts the phaser effect rate, and a FDBK knob to adjust the intensity of that phase. You also have a MODE II mini-switch that takes the 4 phase shift and doubles it up, making it an 8 stage phaser. This, MXR says, will give you “twice the number of peaks and a more animated texture.”
The pedal itself comes in MXR’s mini housing and therefore is too small to take a battery. Instead, you will need an external 9V power supply to run it. But because of its size, it’s perfect for cramped pedalboards. And if it sounds as good as the company says it is, then it could be a winner.

The pedal sounds quite promising and as soon as I can find an audio/video demo, I’ll add one below, so we can all check it out. Currently, it is available for pre-order and comes in at a pretty reasonable street price.
