Positive Grid BIAS Distortion Pedal: Virtually every distortion on tap?
Will this new box of virtual dirt replace your beloved drive pedals?
Positive Grid’s new BIAS Distortion Pedal allows users to build up collections of distortions, fuzz boxes and overdrives, which they can then load onto the unit and take them with them anywhere. So will this new box of virtual dirt replace your beloved pedals?
Virtual Dirt Box
BIAS Pedal’s Tone Match software allows you to capture and model all your favourite dirt boxes, tweak them and then load them onto the hardware to take with you. You can either build them from scratch or capture your existing pedals using the Tone Match software application. Positive Grid also gives you access to the Tone Cloud, so that you can share your favourite dirt boxes with other users.
Presets are also included for the lazy amongst us (yeah okay, that would be me), so you have lots of different ways of getting your favourite drive tones then collating them, organising them and sharing them with the world!
Hardware
The main pedal has four foot switches, a set of controls including Master volume control, Low, Mid and High EQ controls, a Boost control which is assigned to the footswitch directly below it and then Gain, Blend and finally a big Preset dial for choosing your virtual dirt boxes with.
On the rear panel you have jacks for Input, Output and Expression Pedal, as well as a USB port for connectivity to your PC/Mac, MIDI in/out. There’s also a Bluetooth button for pairing to your iOS device.
Presets
The BIAS Distortion comes with ten default presets loaded and you can import new ones with the BIAS Pedal app. The Pedal can actually handle 20 presets loaded at once, by using the A/B bank setting on the unit, so you have 10 empty ones to fill with your own tones. MIDI is implemented, too, so that you have full control over all the parameters of the effect. This could fit into more complex rack systems quite easily.
The unit should be available for (limited) pre-ordering later this month, and will go on general sale later this year. No prices have been confirmed as yet.
Price TBC – pre-orders go live on 20th October on the Positive Grid site
