MadeOnEarth Analog Chorus 60: An authentic Juno chorus?
A modern interpretation of a classic analogue synth chorus
MadeOnEarth has just announced its new Analog Chorus 60 pedal for pre-order. The pedal is designed as a component-accurate modern-day version of the original Roland Juno 60 chorus effect.

Anyone that has every owned or played the original Roland Juno 60 or the Juno 106 will be familiar with the two button built-in analog chorus effect. Roland/Boss have made a number of classic chorus effects over the years, including the Jazz Chorus amps, the CE-1/CE-2 stompboxes, and these Juno chorus effects, so we often harken back to these ’70s and ’80s style analogue circuits.
Which is why MadeOnEarth has reverse engineered and recreated a modern interpretation of that classic ’80s synthesiser chorus effect. The new Analog Chorus 60 is the latest to enter into the arena of boutique chorus pedals.

Rare Parts = Expensive
It’s not cheap, but you have to remember, it uses the original rare components. These include 2 x xvive mn3009 and the original Panasonic 2 x mn3101 chips, original transistors 2SC1815, 2SA1015 and 2SK30A-GR. It also uses the exact same circuit as the original Juno 60. Each pedal is also hand-built in what looks to be a nice rugged enclosure, with ’80s inspired graphics.

Enhanced
Instead of the original two buttons that gave you three chorus rates, MadeOnEarth has added an extra knobs to control the rate of the chorus, depth of the modulation and the stereo width. The company has also printed the original modes around the rate knobs, so you can recreate the original rates.
I like the inclusion of the ext lfo/cv input to apply other modulation sources, along with an input gain to accommodate any type of instrument. You should be able to use this with both guitars or synthesisers, which makes it perfect for studio use and is a nice way to get that classic chorus sound.
The Competition
The only downfall I can foresee is that the TC Electronic June v2 comes in at a considerably cheaper price point and, when sat in a mix, I doubt most people could tell the difference between the two effects. Sure, if you A/B the two pedals, the subtle nuances between the two effects may be easier to pick apart. But in the real world, when used in a track, I believe it would be hard to tell the difference.
Also, Arturia makes a software version of the Juno 60 chorus, called JUN-6 for €99, so there are lots of options out there already.
I’ve owned both an original Roland Juno 60 and Juno 106 in the past, and currently own the original TC Electronic June, and when it is sat in a track, it does the job to a level that I am happy with. With this in mind, I think the new MadeOnEarth Analog Chorus 60 is really going to be for aficionados of the original circuit.
