Focusrite FAST Verb: reverb plug-in with artificial intelligence
A few months ago, Focusrite started a hybrid subscription / rent-to-own service for plug-ins where you either rent them for a short while or pay them off over 15 months, interest-free. Of course, you can also buy any plug-in with a one-off payment – you know, like in the old days. The new FAST Verb plug-in presents another quality addition to The Collective. As the name suggests, it’s about reverbs – and, fast!
FAST Verb
Adding more depth and color to instruments and sounds is the calling of any reverb plug-in. FAST Reverb does it and, as with the other effects in the series, there is also smart technology at play. The artificial intelligence is supposed to automatically generate the right reverb settings for the sound – or, at least something close to start you off. So you get the desired results faster. I don’t know how well this works, but Focusrite says FAST Verb’s machine learning algos are trained with half a million samples. That surely counts for something!
Adventures in AI aside, the plug-in offers three types of reverb at your disposal. They are labeled Natural, Balanced and Artificial. Another special feature is the graphic display which lets you see the pre-delay time, stereo width, stereo placement, and the delay time on a vector scope.
Additionally, the Detail View gives you access to the parameters Color, Clarity, Modulation, Mono-Bass, and Hi-Pass. If you want to try more experimental sounds, you can reverse the reverb effect and try the Freeze function. These are great features for generating some ambient noise.
