The new Magneto Guitars Eric Gales RD-3 model arriving soon
New signature model
Modern-day blues legend Eric Gales has a new Strat-like signature model from Magneto Guitars coming soon. Called the Eric Gales RD-3, this model is the latest incarnation of his guitar, with an all-new colour and a change of pickups.
Magneto Guitars Eric Gales RD-3
Now available in a Sunset Gold finish, the new Magneto Guitars Eric Gales RD-3 is a fine-looking instrument, and you can clearly see the Stratocaster DNA of this model. The guitar features a basswood body and a three-piece maple neck with a rosewood fretboard, so it is pretty well balanced in terms of tonewood choices. An Eric Gales 12th fret inlay marks it as his signature guitar. It also comes with a gold mirror pickguard and a matching backplate.
Metro-Poles EG1
Instead of the previous Lollar RawDawg II pickups in the RD-2, this new version comes with a set of Magneto Metro-Poles EG1 pickups. I think Lollar pickups are quite good, so if he has chosen to update them, they must be pretty special. The single-coil pickups are wired up via a five-way selector switch and master volume and tone controls.
More Gold
All the hardware is in gold and made by Gotoh. So it should be more than roadworthy. Though, you will obviously need to be a fan of gold to really appreciate the RD-3, which normally I am not. Yet I think this guitar balances nicely aesthetically. And I’m looking forward to hearing what other players think of these new Magneto Metro-Poles EG1 pickups.
Certainly one to watch out for, if you like Strat-style guitars. The Eric Gales RD-3 is set to be available in the first part of 2022, with the first 12 being sold exclusively via Mr Gales’ own site. The official price hasn’t been announced yet, so keep checking the site for details.
RRP – TBC
