EHX’s new Nano Q-Tron Envelope Filter has been shrunk down in size and improved upon. Now players can get that sweet funk tone in a smaller, more manageable package.
EHX Nano Q-Tron Envelope Filter
The new EHX Nano Q-Tron Envelope Filter comes in a much smaller nano housing and, at last, with its own volume control. This could be a huge improvement over the regular older version, which would often suffer the dreaded volume loss when you kicked in the effect. I have owned the previous incarnations, and although it is undoubtably a great envelope filter, it could sometimes cause you to get a little lost in the context of a band mix.
Smaller Simplicity
You now get four controls, instead of just the Q, Drive and Mode controls of the previous version. Drive regulates the sensitivity of the filter to the input signal, Q determines the width of the filter frequency, and Mode gives you access to three different filter types – lowpass, bandpass and highpass. And now, finally, the all important Vol (volume) control has been added. But the question arises: Why did this realization take so long? And how long will it be before EHX adds a mix control?
Works with guitar, bass, and more
Well, you can’t have it all. In any case, the sounds in the demo video are pleasing. Anyone who thinks that such an effect can only be used for funk should please listen to John Mayer’s “I Don’t Trust Myself (With Loving You)”. The compact pedal also has true bypass and is equally suitable for guitar, bass, keys, and even horns.
It was already a pretty great circuit, and now that one of its major issues has finally been tackled, it is a lot more viable to use than the previous incarnations. You can hear the pedal in action in the official video below.
