Gibson Johnny Winter 1964 Firebird V Polaris White: A stylish aged replica
Johnny Winter 1964 Firebird V announced by Gibson
Gibson has just announced the new Johnny Winter 1964 Firebird V in Polaris White. The guitar is a Murphy Lab aged recreation of the legendary guitarist’s favourite guitar.
Gibson Johnny Winter 1964 Firebird V
This looks like a fairly faithful recreation of Johnny Winter’s well known 1964 Firebird V. It even has things like the plugged holes from the removed Maestro Vibrola, the faded Firebird logo on the pickguard, and the missing reflector on the rhythm tone knob. The Gibson Johnny Winter 1964 Firebird V has a Murphy Lab custom-aged Polaris White finish with lots of checking and chipping, to recreate Johnny’s well used and heavily played original.
Captured Live
Gibson worked with the late photographer Mick Rock to include some well-known key photos in the guitar package. Mick provided some iconic Johnny Winter photos, as well as the cover art for Winter’s “Captured Live” album. And in honour of Mick Rock, each of the guitars will also come with a signed Johnny Winter print, which is a nice touch.
Classic Construction
The guitar features a 9-ply mahogany/walnut neck-through design, with an Authentic ’64 Medium C-Shape, along with solid mahogany wings for the body. It comes loaded with a pair of Firebird Alnico 5 mini humbuckers, a set of deluxe banjo tuners and a no wire ABR-1 bridge, plus a chrome-plated aluminium stopbar.
It’s a great looking guitar. And if you like Johnny Winter and are a fan of his amazing playing, it would certainly be great to own one. It isn’t cheap, but I have to admit, it is super cool. I’d happily own one any day of the week. It comes in a custom hard case. Case candy includes a Certificate of Authenticity and that 8×10 photograph signed by legendary photographer Mick Rock.
