KIT Plugins launches Core Compressor: a modern take on Neve dynamics
KIT Plugins is a Nashville-based audio developer known for its solid BB N105 Neve channel strip emulation and the free Burier saturator plug-in, among all else. Today, the developer launched a new plug-in called Core Compressor. It’s a liberal take on a “world-class compressor” (likely a Neve module) with transformer modeling and parameters such as threshold, attack, release, input and output gain, crush, and body. This enables both coloration and tonal balance use cases. Core Compressor is also the first instalment in KIT’s Core Series plug-ins (with more to be released) and is sold at an affordable USD 30.

Simple but mighty, Core Compressor offers the following features:
- Diverse tonal shaping ranging between super transparent all the way to crushing crush-ness
- CRUSH mode with fixed fast attack and slow release for serious punch
- BODY circuit applies a low-shelf filter at 250Hz with a fixed Q setting of .9 for precise tonal balancing
- Transformer modeling tames transients while compressing
- Wet/Dry knob for parallel compression
- Fully-resizable user interface
I haven’t tested Core Compressor myself, but early impressions from users over at Gearspace are overwhelmingly enthusiastic. The plug-in is described as live-sounding and responsive to tweaks, which sure sounds like a winning combination. It’s also said to pair very well with the BB N105 channel strip plug-in. That’s one way of getting some of that Neve fairy dust onto your DAW projects without going for a straight-up emulation or spending lots of money.
Price and availability
Core Compressor is sold for USD 30. This is the ‘forever’ price, which is less than you’d expect to pay for a plug-in like this. Additionally, the BB N105 V2 channel strip plug-in is on sale for USD 69 (30% off) until January 3, 2022. System-wise, Core compressor works under macOS 10.11+ and Windows 7+ in 64-bit VST3, AU, and AAX formats.
