As part of its 2022 collection, Fender has announced two limited-edition guitars that celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Jaguar. One for all you lovers of offset guitars, then! The 60th Anniversary Jaguar and 60th Anniversary American Ultra Luxe Jaguar both offers some very nice features, with bags of style thrown in for good measure.

60th Anniversary Jaguar

The new American-made 60th Anniversary Jaguar comes with an alder body finished in either a Mystic Dakota Red or a Mystic Lake Placid Blue nitrocellulose lacquer finish with matching painted headstocks. They have the traditional 24″ scale length, plus the traditional Jaguar bridge and vibrato system, along with a mute. The wiring includes the lead/rhythm circuit, with a strangle switch, and two single-coil pickups. Finally, the maple neck has a bound rosewood fretboard with mid ’60s-style pearloid block inlays.

60th Anniversary American Ultra Luxe Jaguar: A non-traditional Jag

Finished in black with plenty of chrome, the 60th Anniversary American Ultra Luxe Jaguar model is a darker take on the Jaguar shape, with a matching painted headstock. But Fender has departed from the traditional Jag here, throwing a pair of wide-range Double-Tap humbuckers into the mix, along with a blade selector switch and coil-split switches. Another unusual aspect is the 25.5″ scale length and a neck with a modern 10-14″ compound radius fretboard. This special Jag also has a tapered heel and rolled edges. I’d imagine this model will be a lot more aggressive sounding, and probably not for traditionalists. But the black and chrome combo looks nice. The strung through body should also provide players with plenty of sustain.

Limited Edition

These two limited edition offset models offer something for two distinct and divergent tastes. One is a traditional take on the Jaguar formula, in two stunning colours that I think will please the fans. But we also have a modern version of the Jaguar, that takes the classic design in a meaner but focussed direction that I really like. It looks like it will suit modern styles well.

Let us know what you think of these new 60th Anniversary Jaguars in the comments section below. Which one would you buy?

If only they’d made that Ultra Luxe Jag in a more appealing colour (or Arctic White, to really go out there), I’d have really, really wanted one!

I like both but wish the Ultra Luxe was available in the Dakota Red , Don’t care much for the short scale

To celebrate its 1962 birth, they issue Jaguars in 1968 styling. I would have loved a killer ’62 sunburst reissue with some special appointments for the birthday. Even just a fancy little neck plate and a nice little book.

There should be more 25.5″ necked Jaguars. I had a regular Jaguar but it was sold quite quickly again, 25.5″ just feels better to me. Still, is it me or is the Ultra a bit Meteroa with the strings through body and double widerangings?
