Mixland TILT!: passive tilt EQ plug-in with tube saturation
Developer Mixland teamed up with its amigos at Kiive Audio to create a tilt/shelving equalizer plug-in with adjustable tube saturation at the output stage. In a bit of graphical fun, the Mixland TILT! plug-in also visualizes the EQ adjustments with an animated scale. Don’t tip that too far in neither direction!

In principle, tilt EQs have only one purpose which is to balance between treble and bass. There can be situations where the relationship between high and low frequencies is in need of a little tweaking. And a tilt EQ can be just the right tool to even out the scales without too much messing about. The scale metaphor is quite appropriate becase TILT! actually implements this idea graphically. In the middle of the interface, you can see a pair of scales moving as you turn the controls.
While the tilt EQ principle is fairly simple, TILT! keeps it that way but also expands the concept in a meaningful way. As there are two frequency bands (bass and treble), they can be either linked or treated as a pair of individual shelving filters. This provides a little more flexibility. Additionally, a total of eight center frequencies can be chosen for each of the two filters. This lets you be a little more specific with your broad EQ adjustments.
When boosted, the signal is taken straight into a Class A tube circuit emulation. This colors the sound in ways ranging from subtle warmth to distortion and clipping. The grit parameter lets you control the amount of saturation as a tube graphic shows how “hot” you’re running the virtual circuit.
TILT! also features a Bypass button to let you compare the unprocessed sound with your equalization efforts. There are also a bunch of presets to get you started. While TILT! is uncomplicated by intent, the EQ and tube emulation are competent and could be taken further with additional filters and Mid/Side processing.
