JMG Sound Mirror plug-in: Reverse Delays for rainy days
Developer JMG Sound and distributor United Plugins present a new effects plug-in called Mirror. Mirror creates reverse delays. As an effect, they sound absolutely unreal to our ears. That alone makes makes the plug-in very interesting, and you can squash almost 70% of the price through the introductory period.
JMG Sound Mirror lets time run backwards
Ever since the movie Poltergeist (and likely before that), audio producers have used reversed sounds to create tense atmospheres. They underline the tone of the performance and make quite the listener impact owing to their otherworldness. The new Mirror plug-in from JMG Sound offers a good deal of reverse effects. The plug-in is reminiscent of a regular delay that lets you set delay times (or sync with DAW tempo), adjust the Dry / Wet mix balance, Trim (decay), Verb (an additional reverb), and Blur. There are also high-pass and low-pass filters to tame frequency build-ups.
In order to pull off backwards delays, the plug-in requires a normal run through of the audio signal, which is then rotated in time. This means your DAW’s plug-in delay compensation will introduce significant latency. Thus, the plug-in is not suitable for real-time work and recording. Nevertheless, it offers interesting sound design possibilities. I also dig the 90s dark sci-fi aesthetic that the user interface has going. I think it really fits the plug-in’s intended purpose.
