Acustica Audio Fire: new plug-in series kicks off with a pair of filters
Acustica Audio has released Fire Filters, a pair of filter plug-ins designed for easy one-knob operation. With a variety of modes and slopes to choose from, Fire Filters pairs plenty of sonic versatility with a quick and easy interface. The two filters are the first plug-ins in Acustica’s new Fire Series, which will be expanded with more one-knob plug-ins in the future.
Acustica Audio Fire Filters
Acustica says that the new Fire series is meant to combine high audio quality and a distinctive sound with an intuitive, easy-to-use interface that delivers quick results. To achieve this, they’ve emulated “the best audio processors built with the best components” and put them into a new series of one-knob plug-ins, each with a set of essential options.
The two Fire Filters are the first plug-ins in the new series. Acustica says that the high-pass and low-pass filters are based on an analog modular hardware filter, which they’ve built and sampled.
These being “one-knob” plug-ins, each filter offers a huge cutoff knob (10 Hz to 6.3 kHz) as the main control. But you do have some options. The high-pass and low-pass filters both offer a choice of four slopes (6, 12, 24 and 36 dB/octave). With the exception of the 6 dB slope, they can also operate in four modes: Bessel, Butterworth, +2dB resonance peak, and +6 dB resonance peak. This means that while you don’t get a continuously adjustable resonance control, you do have a few settings to choose from for added sonic variety. All in all, each of the two filters offers 13 possible combinations.
While one-knob plug-ins like these offer limited tweakability, they can deliver quick results if you want to keep the creativity flowing. It’ll be interesting to see the Fire series grow – which other one-knob processors could Acustica have in the works?
Price and compatibility
The Acustica Fire Filters are now available for €39. A free 30-day trial is available.
The plug-ins require macOS 10.14 or higher (Apple Silicon supported) or Windows 10 or higher (64 bit). They’re available in VST, AAX and AU formats. Installation and authorization is handled by Acustica’s Aquarius application.
