Invisible Apple AirPods patent leaked with a new wearable design

A patent for the new design of the apparently “invisible” Apple AirPods has leaked through Patently Apple. The proposed idea is a wearable design that features directional audio and will be worn in a similar fashion to a necklace. It may sound far-fetched, but the same directional technology was featured with the Noveto N-1 Bluetooth speaker at CES 2022 this January past.
How exactly will the Invisible Apple AirPods work?
Well, for those who follow the Star Trek universe you will be familiar with the “Communicator” that every member of Starfleet wears. For the uninitiated, the new AirPods use an array of directional speakers. The audio reaches the listener’s ear discretely, without the slightest disturbance to the immediate surrounding area. The device will obviously feature a microphone to allow communication back and forth. It’s likely to be worn inconspicuously like a neckless or attached to clothing as one does with a lavalier mic.

The invisible Apple Airpods design will also feature built-in sensors that align the projected audio to the position of the user’s head and body. In addition to this, these sensors would also be able to transmit data. So fitness and health apps could use your heart rate or blood pressure readings. We don’t quite know when exactly we are likely to see this new technology, but the AirPods Pro earbuds are due for an update. There is a good chance that we will see a redesigned case and additional sensors incorporated into the earpieces. With discrete audio solutions of this nature developing so rapidly, we’re likely to find this technology in more products in the future. Will traditionally-styled earbuds become a thing of the past?
