The Teenage Engineering Line module is a neat new addition for OP-Z owners. The mysterious Swedish music tech company continues to build customizable performance-focused instruments, and the Line is no different. It may seem small, but the connectivity options it offers are considerable. Especially when combined with the other instruments in your setup. The creative power it brings to the already juicy OP-Z makes it an even more formidable live instrument.

What does the Teenage Engineering Line module do?

Like the Oplab and Rumble modules, the Line snaps directly into the bottom of your OP-Z. The crux of this device is how it works both with external audio and MIDI signals. What this means is your OP-Z can interface with eurorack modular gear, MIDI controllers, the Pocket Operator series, and even the antiquated DIN/SYNC signal format. Apart from providing additional stereo line input and output ports, the Line has a three-mode switch for selecting the format of signal you’re dealing with. One of the most impressive features is certainly the ability to split your output signals and process them discretely. This is particularly useful when combined with an external mixer or effects pedals. In addition, you can also sync external gear with the OP-Z sequencer.

The Line expansion module is available now from the Teenage Engineering online store for $149. Those of us who see the OP-Z as more of a toy than a tool can think again. Such is the reputation of Teenage Engineering to keep us guessing. What stands out with designs like these is the simplicity and expandability. Any instrument that can instantly fit into your setup and provide a wealth of creative potential without too much expense is certainly worth a second look.
