Based on the original, which is a unique 1960s Stratocaster with a 1959 neck. The so-called Hitmaker is now being reissued and accordingly has an alder body in the style of 1960. Noted for being smaller and also more contoured than a typical vintage Strat.

Olympic White

The Olympic White nitro lacquer finish is based on the colour that Nile sprayed on himself during the early days of Chic. The one-piece maple neck in the Custom ’59 profile carries a fretboard with 9.5″ radius and medium jumbo frets as well as a silk-matt finish. The back of the head plate is decorated with a Nile Rodgers & Chic logo, the Hitmaker logo is also punched into the neck plate.

Hardtail Bridge

The precisely tuned Strat Single coils are responsible for the funky sound of the Nile Rodgers hitmakers. They reproduce the crisp-clear “Quack” and the bell-bright sound of the original Hitmaker . It also features string-through body hardtail bridge with curved steel string riders, a reflective chrome-plated brass pick guard, and a set of Sperzel Locking Tuners, plus some unique Gibson-esque white knobs.

Overall, it has some lovely specifications, and I’m sure you could coax more than funk tones from this Strat. I’ve always been a fan of hard tail Stratocasters, and I own  now discontinued  Fender Billy Corgan signature model myself. They have a nice attack and offer something different, so great to see another one from Fender.

It might be a nice guitar, but I ain’t a big fan of artists putting their names on music gear. You’re never gonna be Nile, not even with the best guitar, one Nile is enough. I think gear makers are narrowing what the instrument might be used for by naming them after great musicians, the Nile guitar isn’t likely to be used for punk, even though it might be the perfect guitar for it.

I’m tired of all the signature models being released these days. Personally, I wouldn’t be interested in a guitar with some other musician’s name on it. But I’m very happy to see that Nile is getting his due. He deserves the respect.
