KMA Machines Queequeg 2 Sub Generator: Analogue Octaver
Get way down and dirty with your guitar, bass or synth
The new Queequeg 2 Sub Generator is the latest pedal from Berlin based KMA Machines. This simple all analogy octave down effect have been revamped, revised and has plenty of low end on offer.
Queequeg 2 Sub Generator
I think KMA Machines have been hard at work re-designing their back catalogue this year. The last pedal was the WURM 2, which only came out very recently and now we have the Queequeg 2. This version two of the analogue octave effect has been tweaked, made smaller and refined for 2022. Now you have an additional suboctave and the also possibility to switch and mix between the octaves. Plus, the more compact enclosure now features top mounted jacks. Making it a lot better for cramped pedalboards, and easier to wire in. The updated pedal also has relay-based soft switching.
For guitar, bass and synths
The Octaver is really super easy to use and the manufacturer promises fast tracking on guitar, bass and synthesizer alike. This makes it appealing as it can handle a lot of different input types, which could make it a great studio tool as well.
2 Octaves
It offers one octave down, two octaves down and both together. You can make the selection via the mini toggle switch situated below the Mix knob. That one large knob is responsible for the mix (Wet/Dry). If you dial it all the way up, then you will just get the low octave effect and zero dry signal. Great for faux bass tones and weirdness.
The simplicity is nice, but some may find it limiting. I actually quite like the overall tone of the effect, and the tracking does appear to be pretty good. Take a listen to the demos below and see what you think.
