Are the Digitech and DOD brands discontinued?
Riffs, Beards & Gear asks "Was Digitech Just Discontinued?"
It looks suspiciously like the Digitech and DOD brands, owned by Harman, may have been discontinued. YouTube channel Riffs, Beards & Gear, run by Fluff, posted a video today asking the same. Could this be the end of the line for these two well known pedal brands? Or is Fluff barking up the wrong tree?
RIP Digitech?
Harman has had some classic effect pedals released under both the Digitech and DOD brands, the Whammy 5 pedal being one of the most famous currently in the lineup. You can hear Ryan “Fluff” Bruce talking about this subject in the Riffs, Beards & Gear video below. It appears that nearly all the pedals on the main Digitech site are not available, and the Harman parent company site has dropped all references to Digitech on its official site.
Is Fluff on to something? Or is it just coincidence that nearly every pedal seems to be out of stock?
Samsung
Harman Audio itself is part of Samsung, and has owned the two pedal brands for quite some time now. Back in 2018 the Digitech company sacked the whole development team. This caused quite a furore at the time, and many people expected the brand to either fold, or perhaps come out with fresh new designs. The latter never materialised.
Digitech Blowout Sale?
Other interesting things I have noticed include the official Digitech Instagram page not posting anything since 21 April 2021, and many official Digitech stockists have stock coming soon notices on their web sites. Could we see a huge worldwide Digitech Blowout Sale soon?
Could we see a surge in used prices?
I have found some of the Digitech pedals still available for sale on Thomann (see below), though many are out of stock on other sites. Some retailers could, of course, have stock in their warehouses. But it is suspicious that the brands have been dropped on the Harman site.
Are the prices of used Whammy 5 pedals, DOD Rubberneck Analog Delay and Carcosa Fuzz pedals about to soar? Hopefully, it is just a blip and the two brands will carry on, either under the Harman family of brands, or perhaps under another company. For example, maybe FMIC or Gibson will scoop up these well known brands.
Do you think Digitech’s days are numbered, or is it all just the internet rumour mill in action? Let us know in the comments section below

I think it is down to them running low on stocks then when they decided to make new batches they couldn’t get the chips.
Could be. But then why are they no longer listed on the Harman site as a brand? It is certainly an odd time for the brand.
Hey Jeff, how about you ask a pointed question to your buddies @Thomann and see if they expect any more pedals? Maybe they were offered some at blowout prices?
Believe me, I already asked a load of questions to all the people I know in the industry. As ever it takes time to get any replies.
Would be sad to see these brands go. Have had several pedals of both brands, and never had an issue with them at all. But isnt this then the 2nd time Samsung would pull the plug on them?
Cutting my teeth as a muso in the 1980s, I’ll be sad to see these brands go, if that’s what’s happening. And glad that I got my Mosaic pedal when I did. The best 12 string guitar emulator I’ve ever heard – all the joy without the hassle of all those extra strings to change.
Brand name just sold to another Korean guitar company… good luck as there isn’t much to rescue left… but at least it wasn’t Uli…
It is a real shame. My old ’90s Digitech gear was all made in the USA and is still going strong. Same with DOD pedals at the time. This could well be another nail in the coffin for the once great brand.
Perhaps, but nothing has been made in the US for many many years now (was all contract ODM/OEM in Asia). Other than the brand(s), the biggest asset pool was the special and patented code and designs. Definitely a shame that Harman (Samsung) got rid of all the staff and know how when they closed the Utah offices and shipped all the custom chips dev tools up to Harman HQ to only be forgotten about (why all the main and fun digital stuff went EOL a few years ago). The code for all the former assets will be almost impossible to reinvigorate and develop now and the patent list value drops day by day as it all runs out of time. Hope this Korean guitar building company has even deeper pockets than the large amount of money I hear they bid to get it, if they want to do reinvent the brand(s)…
(Starts to rummage in drawers for Dod and Digitech pedals that haven’t seen the light of day for a few years…)
Yes, Digitech is no more. Samsung or whoever kept tc electronic stuff (which across the board suck) and ditched DigiTech which had great stuff.
Digitech 256XL rack unit is on a par with anything Lexicon(they’re siblings btw) or Eventide made as far as multi-fx for tone shaping. Pair the aforementioned 256XL with another gem from Digitech: the Synth-Wah XSW ya have the tools that practically give u a H9000 in sorta conjunctive stompbox/rack form thanx folks
