This week we have seen some pretty interesting arrivals for signature guitars and pedals, with some great new guitar gear gems that I had to share with you all. We have one limited edition artist signature pedal for Larry LaLonde, plus two new signature guitars for Jake E Lee and Bernie Marsden for you to check out.

It’s been a busy week for signature releases; let’s dive straight in…

Keeley Ler Bubble Tron

First up is the Larry ‘Ler’ LaLonde Artist Series Edition Le Bubble Tron from Keeley pedals, which, by the time you read this, will have no doubt already sold out.

Zappa Tones

The Primus guitarist has been using the standard Bubble Tron since it first appeared back in 2016. Now Keeley has released this custom artwork Artist Series edition; I do love that purple paint job, it looks great. Thankfully, the standard edition is still easy to buy, and is one amazing sounding modulation pedal. Think classic Frank Zappa tones, and you’ll be on the right path with this one.

Charvel Jake E Lee

The new Charvel Jake E Lee signature model has also been released officially. We saw the announcement earlier this year, along with the new Satchel signature, but now it is finally available to buy. It features an alder body finished in Pearl White, and a maple neck with a rosewood fretboard. This guitar will no doubt play like a dream. I own a SoCal and the build quality on these guitars is very high, so I am expecting great things from this signature model.

Hard Tail

It’s a hard tail Super Strat with a Seymour Duncan JBTM SH-4 humbucker in the bridge, and DiMarzio SDS-1TM DP111 single-coils in the middle and neck position. The model is based on the guitar he played with Ozzy, now available as a Mexican made Charvel at last. It will be interesting to see how this new version stacks up against the USA made version.

Nik Huber Bernie Marsden Signature model

Bernie Marsden, famous for his playing with Whitesnake, is also the owner of The Beast, an original ‘Burst Les Paul Standard, which is the inspiration for these. The Nik Huber Bernie Marsden Signature will be limited to a run of 12 Flame Tops and 12 Gold Tops.

P90

There isn’t much more information on these, but you know they will be heavenly tone-wise. Nik Huber makes some of the top guitars in the world, and I am expecting these to be pretty special. We can see the Gold Top models have a pair of P90 pickups, whilst the Flame Tops are humbucker-equipped. There’s a three-knob control layout and a regular toggle selector switch, and more than that we don’t know! Stay tuned for more details on these, as I think they will be huge despite only 24 examples, in total, being built.

Am I reading that right? Over a grand for a Mexican-made Strat-o-clone? I mean it’s very pretty and all, plus the unusual aspect of the hardtail and crooked pickups, but… gosh.

I think I must have somehow missed 20 years of rising guitar prices!

Yeah, prices go up and I reckon they will keep on going up for many years to come. Unlikely to ever go down either. The USA made ones will make your wallet tremble with fear, if that makes you feel any better. Lol.

Of course you are paying a premium for it being a signature instrument and we all know that they have the magic power to make you sound exactly like the artist. So if I ever have the burning desire to play Bark At The Moon note-for-note perfect, it’ll be worth it 😉

Meanwhile I’m (again) reminded of the good old days when, for the first ten years of my life as a self-taught musician, an (extremely) cheap Craftsman Flying V copy somehow served me perfectly well!

Jake E Lee needs to earn a crust and I’d expect him to want to make a few bucks out of this collaboration. I grew up in an era where you could buy a Gibson Les Paul Custom used for £500 and they weren’t hard to find in great condition. Though at the time a Charvel would have cost you way more than that old Les Paul…
