Highlights so far

Erica Synths decided to turn the LXR-02 drum machine into a fabulously fruitful drum and bass voice for Eurorack. The SYNTRX II synthesizer is also looking fantastic. Booth 0235.

The loudest throbbing techno will probably be pumping from the Knobula stand. The Kickain module combines a 909 kick drum with a side-chain compressor to give you the perfect balance for your banging modular tracks. Booth Z232.

Hints and Tips

But there are so many manufacturers and makers of modular that we haven’t heard from yet. Many will simply show their current range of modules and allow you to listen to them and chat about their usefulness. But others will have new and exciting products to spring on us as the show begins on Thursday. Here are some that we would like to know more about.

U-He

Software developer U-He surprised us all with the CVilization module at Superbooth 2018. Now he claims to have a couple of new modules for Superbooth 22. These include some kind of envelope and modulation module and a multimode filter. I can also see a  previously announced but never released module called Wiretap, which I’ve always found fascinating. Wiretap can generate gates and rhythms in response to melody. Is it ready to release? We’ll find out on booth Z100.

Noise Lab

Noise Lab planned to launch itself at the ill-fated Superbooth 2020 with a range of good looking modules. Two years later, I spotted some new modules in an Instagram post. There seems to be the Formantic Formant Filter and Tailgater Preamp/Tracker. On the website, Noise Lab has announced the Clang Ring Modulator, which is a four-quadrant multiplier combined with two types of wave folders, an oscillator and a VCA. Booth Z240.

VoicAs Modular

VoicAs has two new modules to show. LedPressor is an imposing looking stereo diode compressor. Multi-Rover is presumably an expansion on the LedRover to give full stereo multi-band overdrive. It’s going to get noisy over on booth Z313.

Apollo View Modular

A new outfit from the UK that is bringing its first modules to Superbooth. I can tell you very little about them other than Instagram suggests they are MCU based and have a big hole in the middle. Maybe it’s for a button or maybe a joystick, which is all the rage this season.

It’s very exciting to discover new modules and Apollo View Modular will be hanging out on booth H150.

Let us bring you the news

Otherwise, there are so many booths with so many modules that it’s almost impossible to experience it all. Well, let us help with that. I’ll be covering all the news coming out of the show for the next couple of days, and I’ll be glued to the feeds, hashtags and Tiktoks (!), so you won’t have to. You can stay up to date via our dedicated Superbooth 22 rolling report page.

And I’ve hardly scratched the surface. There’s a rumoured Moog party happening on the first day. Arturia is turning up in a massive truck. Bastl Instruments has something involving pizza. How about firms like Dreadbox, Endorphin.es, Instruo, Plankton, Ritual Electronics, Shakmat, Tiptop and Winter Modular? They usually have something new for us. It all starts tomorrow!
