SolidGoldFX Surf Rider IV: More compact, more surf?
Smaller and now with even more features. Surfs up!
The Surf Rider IV Modulated Reverb has just been revealed by SolidGoldFX. The Canadian effect pedal company has completely revised it, compared to the previous version III model. It now comes in a smaller housing and offers even more tones. A no-brainer for surf guitar sound?
Surf Rider IV
The SolidGoldFX Surf Rider IV digitally emulates the classic spring reverb effect often associate with surf guitarists. This is a new revision of the previous third version and now packs even more features into a smaller housing. However, being smaller eliminates the boost footswitch and expression input of the previous version III model.
The perfect surf reverb pedal?
The Surf Rider IV has four controls labelled Decay, Dwell, Body and Level. In addition, two other functions, Speed and Depth are available via the Body and Dwell knobs respectively. There is a toggle switch in the middle, which was previously called Res on the III model. This is now labelled as Tank and offers three modes that determine the length of the spring reverb:
- Reverb-O-Rocket (left) – small
- Super Reverb (centre) – classic 60s surf rock sound
- Fantasy Reverb (right) – “pushed to the max”
Internally, you’ll find a DIP switch that chooses whether the bypass should be buffered, whether trails are activated (i.e. the effect end after switching off) and whether the Flutter modulation style is momentary or latching. The main footswitch activates the effect or works as a momentary latch in the latter mode.
