Launchkey 88: Novation announces 88-key MIDI keyboard controller
Novation today announced Launchkey 88, its first 88-key MIDI keyboard controller. It marks the occasion with an 88-key semi-weighted keybed, 16 velocity-sensitive pads, and inspiration & performance features. Here’s more about the controller…
Novation Launchkey 88
The Launchkey keyboards are a strong representation of Novation’s capacity to make trusty and affordable music equipment. They are affordable, offer deep integration with Ableton Live, and come in all sizes – there’s the portable Launchkey Mini and models spanning 25, 37, 49, and 61 keys.
The line-up is now complete by an 88-key MIDI keyboard which a lot of people wanted, says the manufacturer. Apparently, the Launchkey 88 has a semi-weighted keybed which sets it apart from the rest of the range and probably feels great.
The performance and inspiration tools built into the keyboard include an arpeggiator, Scale mode to stay in key, and three Chord modes to trigger complex harmonies from a single key. You can also use Strum Mode to play through arpeggios with the mod wheel.
According to Novation, Launchkey 88 also works standalone, so you can play any instrument without being tethered to a computer. The Arpeggiator, Scale and Chord Modes, and Custom Modes can trigger any MIDI-compatible musical hardware.
The Launchkey 88 also integrates with Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Cubase, and other DAWs via premade mapping and the HUI protocol to control essential mixer, transport, and navigation functions. The bundled software includes Ableton Live Lite 11, XLN Audio Addictive Keys, AAS Session Bundle, Spitfire Audio LABS Expressive Strings, Klevgrand R0Verb, Klevgrand DAW Cassette, and a subscription to Novation Sound Collective. That’s a strong welcome page any way you put it!
