EXCLUSIVE: Ferrofish A32 with Dante coming soon!
Ferrofish to add Dante to a 1U interface already loaded with features
Last year saw rhe release of the Ferrofish A32, and we saw one of the first models at BVE 2016. This interface hasn’t really received the recognition it probably deserves. However, that might all be about to change when a new version arrives early next year. In addition to its already powerful feature set, it will feature Dante connectivity. That means a new MADI – Analogue – ADAT – Dante – USB ‘bridge’ is coming to market soon. Watch out, Focusrite!
Ferrofish A32 Dante
Unfortunately, there aren’t many user reviews available for original A32. But all things considered, it seems to be an excellent piece of hardware. With the close connections to RME in Germany, I expect the audio quality is very high and it should have a ‘clean’ sound. The channel count and feature set on the current A32 is already very competitive. In a 1U rack mountable case there are 32 channels of analogue inputs and outputs as well as 32 channels of MADI and ADAT connectivity. The A32 uses USB to interface with your computer.
In the existing marketing around the current A32, Ferrofish are highlighting both studio and stage uses. Many pro live sound systems use MADI connectivity for high channel counts and distribution, but Audio-over-IP is definitely the way of the future. Arguably, Dante is the leading standard in the AoIP world, especially for live music reinforcement. The addition of Dante will enable the A32 to be more versatile whilst offering another solution on the market for ‘bridging’ the various digital audio domains.
I believe this is potentially a really exciting release. There are currently very few solutions able to bridge MADI and Dante, or to add additional ADAT pre-amps onto a Dante network. Many existing solutions are either technically ‘long-winded’ or very expensive. This is likely to be a very welcome product when it comes to market. That all this is available in a 1U unit is particularly impressive.

This is breaking news so further information isn’t available just yet. However, check out the existing A32 webpage on Ferrofish’s website for information about the current model. Information around the new revision should become available soon. The existing model is available for around 1,886 GBP. We can reveal the new Dante-enabled model will have a recommended retail of 3,399 EUR.
