Gretsch Limited Editions – Penguin, Falcon and Pro Jet have just landed!
Three Limited Editions for the new year with classic retro styling
Gretsch has announced three new limited edition models in the form of the Limited Edition Falcon, Penguin and Electromatic Pro Jet. Available by the end of the year, these cool-looking new guitars will hopefully herald more new releases to come in 2017!
Rare Birds
Gretsch G6136TFM-DCHY Limited Edition Falcon
This is a single-cutaway guitar with a flame maple top with a Dark Cherry finish. The Falcon looks great with its deep cherry red colour and the gold hardware. It features 22 medium jumbo frets and the obligatory Bigsby tremolo system, for when you want a bit of wobble! The twin pickups are TV Jones TV Classic models, with PIO (Paper In Oil) caps on the tone controls and so the guitar should also sound the part as well. But – and it is a big but – they aren’t cheap.
RRP $4,999
Gretsch G6134T-CDG Limited Edition Penguin
The Penguin is a very popular Gretsch model and this limited edition version looks, I think, really good in Cadillac Green. This is a metallic finish and so should look great in real life paired with all that gold hardware. Twin TV Jones TV Classic pickups are, again, wired up using PIO capacitors. It should sound as classic as you would hope given its retro styling. This model also has 22 medium jumbo frets, this time with mother-of-pearl thumbnail inlays. It’s very bling, yet still quite tasteful.
RRP $4,699
Gretsch G5435TG-BLK-LTD16 Limited Edition Electromatic Pro Jet
This is essentially a cheaper version of the Penguin, coming in Jet Black and with gold hardware. The model certainly looks the part and will have many fans, as the price is a fraction of the other two models. It also has 22 medium jumbo frets, with a rosewood fingerboard and a single cutaway. In contrast to the other models, it’s loaded with “Blacktop” Filter’Tron pickups and a Bigsby B50G tailpiece.
RRP $849
