Audio Brewers ab Reverb: Versatile reverb for spatial audio
Audio Brewers has released ab Reverb. Just like ab Delay, which came out a couple of months ago, the reverb plug-in is designed to handle mono, stereo, and Ambisonics sources, and offers stereo and Ambisonics outputs for maximum flexibility. With a good selection of controls for fine-tuning the reverb effect, ab Reverb looks like a versatile reverb for music production, sound design, and spatial mixing.
Audio Brewers ab Reverb
According to Audio Brewers, ab Reverb is a digital reverb that works in the spatial domain by adding not only width but also depth and height to the signal. In addition to mono and stereo signals, the plug-in accepts Ambisonics sources and automatically adapts its input. For the output, you can choose between stereo and Ambisonics, which means that it’s compatible with a wide range of output formats and speaker arrays. Furthermore, Audio Brewers says that the internal processing is performed in Ambisonics.
The interface consists of two separate areas for the early reflections and the reverb tail. For each reverb phase, you can adjust the size, pre-delay, dampening, density, and wet volume. Moreover, you can even freeze each section independently. Each section also has its own 1-band equalizer for further sound shaping.
In addition to this, ab Reverb offers horizontal and vertical spatial controls. The developer says that these let you rotate the reverb in three dimensions for an immersive listening experience. The resulting reverb is also visualized graphically in 3D, so you can see what’s going on.
All in all, ab Reverb pairs a versatile reverb engine with extensive spatial features. If you work with immersive audio, it looks like a tool that should definitely be in your arsenal.
Price and compatibility
Audio Brewers ab Reverb is now available for an introductory price of €49. This offer is good through August 5, 2022, after which the price will increase to €59 – still a pretty good deal!
The plug-in runs on macOS El Capitan or higher (including native support for Apple Silicon processors) and Windows 10 or higher. It’s available in VST3, AU, and AAX formats.
