Korg Kronos LS appears on Japanese website
We had a sneak at a new Kronos about a month ago when it was seen in a photograph with a prototype ARP Odyssey FS. The Kronos LS 88 has now appeared on the Japanese Korg website. No sign of it anywhere else. Let’s see if Google Translate can reveal any details.
Kronos LS
The first thing, of course, is that this is a Kronos. It has 9 synthesis engines, loads of polyphony, 314MB of preset PCM sounds with room for up to 2GB. It’s a 16-track sequencer and 16-track hard disk recorder. It’s allegedly the ultimate synthesizer workstation. As far as we can tell nothing has changed in that regard with the LS 88.
What it does tell us is that the Kronos LS 88 is an 88-keyed version that’s designed to be much lighter than the current one. The keyboard is designed “for light touch key” giving it a “light performance feeling of synth keyboard without impairing already established design balance”. What this means is that they’ve shaved off 6.4Kg in weight when compared to the 88-key weighted Kronos.
It comes with a new OS version (3.1) which includes “Quick Layer / Split” which allows for easy assignment of instrument layers. Other than that the other striking detail is the dark brown colour and sunburst side wood panels.
So, essentially, you get a nice looking Kronos, with fully 88 keys that’s easier to carry and gig with – nice one. No price or signs of availability in the rest of the world as yet. You can check out all the details and additional images on the Korg Japan website.
