If you are looking for something unusual and yet natural and organic to ignite your beats and soundscapes, SoundIrons Petrograph might be just what you need. Mining the cultures of North American tribes, Petroglyph draws on the percussive nature of stones, tools and weaponry to produce an authentic collection of Stone Age percussion. Using bowls, awls, hammers, pestles and mortars carved from obsidian, serpentine, slate, flint, granite, sandstone, volcanic basalt and animal bone they’ve sampled everything from scrapes and grinds to taps and thuds. There’s 100 sound sets, each with 8-10 variations for every velocity layer.
Listening to the sample tracks there’s an overwhelming sense of earthiness, a natural and deeply familiar resonance that goes well beyond the traditional sounds associated with tribal music. You can imagine them being used as alternatives to hand or drum percussion, but also less obvious things like synth arps and electrical noises. It’s satisfyingly raw, basic and elemental.
This 305MB library includes 2292 samples and 7 nki presets with a custom user interface for Kontakt 5.5 or later. It has a beautifully rendered interface giving you control over articulations, tone and arpeggiation. An integrated multi-effect rack is also included with reverb, EQ, filter, and modulation.
