Manufacturer Antelope Audio presents an unconvential release with the new Edge Note. It’s a small-diaphragam condenser microphone, a design that’s largely overlooked compared to the prominence of large-diaphragm condensers in studios. But Antelope Audio has repeteadly shown a completionist approach to its product range. It certainly had a mic like that in it to make one. And besides, is there another small-diaphragm condenser out there that works with mic emulations? Here’s more about that, the microphone, and everything else it has going.

Small-diaphragm condensers fit where large-diaphragms don’t. They can also be stage condenser mics, though not always. These are both good enough reasons for the design to exist. The Edge Note is an impressive achievement in the category, offering a super-high SPL of 146dB along with an attenuation pad switch and a high-pass filter.

These factors and its compact size give you lots of options to capture loud sources in cramped spaces. Moreover, the mic is compatible with 13 emulations of classic studio staples. The mic models can be used with any Antelope interface, such as the Zen Go Synergy Core, and possibly older (FPGA-only) units. They can also work with native plug-ins in your DAW.

Knowing other Edge mics before it, the Note likely sounds as transparent and clean as Antelope promised. It has a signal-to-noise ratio of 69dB. Its frequency response covers the entire human-audible range of 20Hz – 20kHz. The high-pass filter can be switched between 75Hz and 115Hz and the attenuation pad switches between -10dB and -20dB. The microphone has a metal housing in Black Matte finish. It ships with a shock mount holder to help remove mechanical noise.

Overall, I think Antelope Audio gave the Note a very professional treatment and the mic has a lot of clean recordings to offer in the rare small-diaphragm format.
