Guitar Gear Gems: Fender Custom Shop Johnny A and more
New '60s style signature Strat, plus Boss unveils expanded for controller for Katana II amp range
Guitar Gear Gems this week features the latest Fender Custom Shop signature Stratocaster for Johnny A. This Strat comes in Lydian Gold Metallic and Sunset Glow Metallic finishes. Plus, the all-new Boss GA-FC EX Foot Controller, a controller for your Katana II amp that opens up the functionality.
Fender Custom Shop Johnny A
The latest Fender Custom Shop Johnny A Artist Signature model is certainly a looker. This model is based on the session and solo artist’s four favourite vintage Fender years, 1963 through to 1966.
Specifications
This guitar comes with a two-piece alder body with an off-centre seam and is paired with a 3A birdseye maple neck with a ‘65-style oval-C profile. The neck comes with a 7.25” radius round-lam rosewood fretboard, which is in keeping with the ’60s era that it is based on. For more modern playability it comes fitted with 21 medium jumbo frets. It also has a bone nut, plus vintage-style tuners, a wing string tree with a tall metal spacer and dot inlays.
Custom Pickups
Pickups are a set of hand-wound Custom Shop 11/56 single-coil models in the neck and middle positions. Along with a steel bottom-plated 11/56 bridge pickup. The steel plate adds a bit more bite to the bridge pickup.
The pickups are wired using a standard five-way blade switch and it has a Strat Blender wiring with Tone-Saver bleed circuitry. This adds two extra pickup combinations: bridge and neck in parallel and all three pickups together in parallel.
Available in Lydian Gold Metallic and Sunset Glow Metallic finishes.
MSRP – Lydian Gold Metallic Strat USD 5200 and Sunset Glow Metallic USD 5450
Boss GA-FC EX Foot Controller

This new foot controller adds the ability to access more functions, and customisable workflows. Plus it can work with up to three expression pedals and control two Boss Katana amps at once.
It doesn’t replace the previous GA-FC foot controller but adds more features.
Differences between the GA-FC and GA-FC EX?
The GA-FC EX does everything the previous GA-FC did and has upgraded features for smoother operation and more customisable workflows. Features include dual LEDs, simultaneous switching for channels and effects, and an expanded mode for combining with another GA-FC foot controller.
MSRP – USD 149 / EUR 159 *
