Avid unveils the Pro Tools Carbon Pre mic preamp interface
The Pro Tools Carbon Pre offers Pro Tools users an expansion for the Carbon interface. So whether you need more preamps for your HD rig or simply a high-end ADAT preamp to give you more inputs, the Carbon Pre is worth looking at.

For a 1U rack unit, the Carbon Pre offers plenty of I/O expansion. This makes it the perfect companion for your Carbon interface. With 24 additional mic/line channels you’ll have enough I/O for tracking and mixing down larger projects.
On the digital side, there are 16 channels of ADAT when running at 44.1-48 kHz sample rate, 8 channels running at 88.2-96 kHz, or 4 channels at 176.4-192 kHz like the Carbon interface.
Up to two Carbon Pres can be changed to one Carbon interface and they are also backwards compatible with older HD systems. This allows you to expand your system by using it as an expansion preamp or converter for your current system.
Just like the Carbon, channels 5-8 are remote controlled Variable impedance inputs which makes them incredibly versatile and easy to configure within Pro Tools. Also there is a pair of TS inputs on the left of the front panel, for easy access.
Overall, the Carbon range offers Pro Tools users a high-end solution that is far more integrated into the modern production workflow than the 192 stacks of years past.
For sure the price tag is still the same, but HD hardware has a longstanding reputation to uphold as one of the most widely used recording systems in the last 20 years.
