KORG modwave native Completes The native Trilogy
Korg release their hotly anticipated plugin version of Korg’s modwave synthesizer, modwave native, and just in time for Christmas. It is accompanied by updates for the hardware too!
Just in time to be added to Santa’s list, Korg today announced the release of modwave native, their plugin version of their excellent modwave hardware synthesizer. Following in the footsteps of opsix native and wavestate native, modwave was always going to be on the cards. Korg started a trend of producing 1:1 software replicas of their hardware which seems to be catching on. Just recently, Arturia released MiniFreak V, an exact copy of the hardware as a plug in.
modwave History
The modwave is Korg harking back to their DW8000 hardware synth of the mid 80s. This synth was a digital/analog hybrid featuring their DWGS (Digital Waveform Generator System) concept of single cycle waveforms which were passed through analog filters. The modwave and modwave native expand on this greatly and can deliver even greater control over the wavetables, adding motion sequencing and realtime manipulation of the wavetables.
modwave native Voice Structure
Patches consist of two layers, each with their own dual wavetable oscillators. A layer can feature four lanes of step-sequenced motion sequencing, four envelopes, five LFOs and two modulation processors. Combined with the filters, these then pass through a comprehensive modulation matrix before being sent to some impressive onboard effects.
Kaoss Physics
Kaoss Physics is another innovative feature which implements Korg’s impressive Kaoss functionality in a three-dimensional way. A simple flick of the mouse sends a ball scurrying around a simulated 3D environment which has virtual physical features which affect the travel of the ball and the way the modulations are triggered. This can help you generate some pretty amazing and organic motion to your patch design.
modwave native Compatibility
The modwave native plugin is fully compatible with the modwave hardware and patches created in one will work with the other. This makes for a really flexible combination and allows users to create sounds in the studio and take on the road, or vice versa. Owners of the modwave hardware are eligible for a discount on the plugin.
Original modwave hardware owners can also benefit from a new update. Software version 1.1.3 improves synchronization and brings a streamlined installation on Windows 10/11. There are new options for Kaoss Physics communication via MIDI and other improvements to functionality and reliability. The modwave Editor/Librarian 1.1 has support for generating modwave native coupon codes and a host of improvements and bug-fixes.
More Information
Korg modwave native is available from the Korg Store and has an RRP of $199 and is available for an introductory price of $149. Hardware owners can buy a crossgrade licence for ¢49.99.
