This week on Guitar Gear Gems we look at the new limited run of JHS Pedals Germanium Boost pedals just announced. This limited release is all down to the ultra-rare components at the heart of the pedal design. Then we check out Jack White’s new stompbox collaboration with MXR and the new Snark Air clip-on tuner
Germanium Boost
The JHS Pedals’ Germanium Boost is limited to 700 units because they require NOS germanium transistors which are very rare and hard to source. All 700 units use the NOS black glass OC71 transistor.

Rangemaster
This simple one-knob pedal is going to sell for $249 each, and I guess that it will sell out very quickly (or be sold out by the time you read this). They are based on the Dallas Rangemaster circuit. Which has been a very sought-after vintage effect for many years.
It will work well with a tube amp that needs to be pushed harder and that is where they tend to excel.

Third Man Hardware
Jack White loves pedals and his Third Man Hardware company has worked in conjunction with MXR pedals to create the Double Down. Essentially, it contains two MXR Micro Preamps and allows you to drive two guitar amplifiers at once.

Split
The Double Down’s single input splits your guitar signal into two separate outputs. Each with its own Gain control for up to +26dB of signal boost. The left side of the housing has a Phase switch that adds a pronounced stereophonic effect by inverting the phase of the second output signal.
On the right side is a Buffer switch that goes between true bypass or buffered bypass switching. There are two versions one in black as shown above, plus a limited edition version in yellow.

Snark Air
The Snark Air is the latest clip-on tuner from the brand and features a rechargeable battery. It recharges via USB and comes in a tiny form factor that is very discrete.

Just tap
The interesting feature is that it has no switches or buttons. Just tap the Snark Air to wake it up and off it goes. Tap it twice to change the display to work well behind your headstock. It works on the back and front equally well.
