The JHS Pedals Legends of Fuzz effect pedals were planned as a series of 10 pedals. Now there are three more: Mary-K, Plugin and Berkeley. And in addition, the Volture also has a “dying battery effect” available for all analogue pedals.

JHS Mary-K

Here is a Kay Fuzz Tone circuit from 1969 in it – a modification of the Univox Superfuzz. It is the first pedal in the series to have an expression input and a JHS mode, which, in addition to clipping from silicon diodes, adds parallel clipping from germanium diodes and can be controlled via the expression. The sound is fat, creamy and clearly a legendary fuzz sound.

JHS Plugin

There is a 1967 Boss Tone from Jordan Electronics circuit with this one. The name comes from the design, which at the time was less like a pedal, but rather a box with the circuit directly on the jack plug. The plugin also has a JHS mode that adds more mids and less compression at the push of a button.

JHS Berkeley

The Berkeley is based on an OP amp circuit that sounds rather dark and very dense. The role model is a 1973 Fresh Fuzz from Seamoon Inc, known for its use by bands like Boston or guitarists like Eric Johnson. The JHS mode switch on the side is a bright switch and makes the pedal even more flexible.

JHS Volture

Matching a little helper: The Volture is a pedal with which you can imitate the dying battery in case of fuzz effects on the mains power. It is switched in front of the power connection and then continuously regulates the input voltage, which changes the sound of some effects, for example adding more “gating” to the sound.

Price and market launch

The MSRP of the new models Berkeley*, Plugin* and Mary-K* is identical to the first fours: 179 USD (shipping and taxes come on top) – can be ordered here in stores for 239 euros each from now on. The Volture* costs 109 euros.
