Introducing the Warm Audio WA-MPX and WA-2MPX tube preamps

We’re taking a look at the new Warm Audio WA-MPX and WA-2MPX vintage-style tube preamps. Equipped with 3 tubes per channel, the MPX gives you plenty of tonal flexibility to add character to your sound.
Warm Audio is known for building affordable recreations of classic gear, while still maintaining excellent manufacturing standards with high-quality parts. The new MPX series is inspired by the famous Ampex 351 tube preamp from the 1950s.

The MPX uses CineMag custom-wound transformers combined with some flexible topology options and a tape saturation circuit to take you right back to the sound of golden era of rock ‘n’ roll.
If you include high-gain mode that introduces the third tube to the signal path, each channel is capable of giving you a massive 90 dB of tube amplification.
This makes the MPX a versatile preamp choice for dynamic, condenser, or ribbon microphones, as it provides plenty of discrete gain for low-output mics and quiet sound sources.

In addition, the selectable Tone circuit adds colouration by altering the impedance of the input transformer. Meanwhile, the more functional controls like the 80 Hz HP and 2 kHz LP filters are useful tools for properly isolating your sound source.
Overall, the MPX series combines vintage-era sonics with modern functionality at a competitive price. Moreover, Warm Audio has produced a preamp capable of delivering heaps of clean gain, while still being able to add tone color, harmonics, and saturation when desired.
