Find your tone with the Apogee jamx audio interface
The Apogee jamx brings new innovation to the line with features like an integrated analogue compressor. We find out more about this new guitar-friendly interface.
Apogee seems to have carved out a niche with high-quality pocket-sized devices that allow you to get great recording quality wherever you may be. Software-based amp simulation has revolutionized the way we record, practice, and perform, and the jamx has been designed as the perfect way into the digital realm.
The Apogee jamx in action
A first in this range of interfaces is the built-in analogue compressor. With 3 input dependant settings, you can shape your signal before it reaches the converter. Choose from mild, medium, or more aggressive compression settings with Smooth Leveler, Purple Squeeze, and Vintage Blue Stomp.
This is a useful feature regardless of your playing style or the genre of music you’re working with, as you can introduce more definition to your overall dynamics and add more sustain. The compressor can be used as an instrument to create your sound or as a simple tool for catching peaks.
The jamx offers 24-bit 96 kHz recording on Mac, Windows, and the iPad Pro. With its metal construction, it’s safe to take anywhere and the useful blend mode allows you to monitor your dry unprocessed signal, free of any latency.
Overall, the jamx is a considerable improvement on an already great simple design. The 1⁄8” output feeds headphones or powered speakers, and the studio-grade 1⁄4” input can be used on guitar, bass, keyboards, synths, or instrument with a pickup.
