Cort guitars to announce new Frank Gamble signature acoustic at NAMM?
Cort guitars are due to announce a Frank Gambale signature model at NAMM 2016, it appears. It is a concert-sized acoustic guitar. The model features a solid Adirondack spruce top, flamed blackwood back and sides, a mahogany neck, an ebony fingerboard featuring a custom inlay, an ebony bridge, gold tuners, and a 43 mm nut. It’s also equipped with the LR Baggs EAS-VTC EQ system and includes a guitar case in the price.
At time of writing there is no detailed information of this new acoustic and still no retail price. It seems Cort are keeping all the finer details ‘hush hush’ until the NAMM Show at the end of the week.
Frank Gambale is known for his ultra-fluid sweep picking technique, and was a well known guitar player in the 1980s when I was growing up. He is a graduate of GIT (Guitar Institute of Technology) as well as a former instructor at the school. Gambale has released numerous instructional books and videos over the years; I had one given to me once as a kid and was blown away by the amount of notes per bar!
Gambale is probably best known for his fusion playing on an electric guitar back in the ‘80s and had a very popular signature electric guitar in the past with Ibanez. This took the form of an ultra thin Sabre-style instrument and came in a bright yellow finish. In recent years he has been seen with a Carvin signature model electric, the FG1.
So, it will be interesting to see what everyone makes of the new acoustic bearing his name. He is a monster player and so I look forward to hearing him play it as I’m sure some videos will emerge in the coming weeks.
