Fret Zeppelin: An LED Stairway to Heaven for beginners?
This crowd funded guitar tuition system has already hit its target
This Kickstarter campaign attempts to make learning guitar a little easier. The Fret Zeppelin could crash and burn with such a stupid name, however it looks like the crowd-funding campaign has already made its target and is on its way to guitars across the globe soon.
L.E.D.
The LED system fits onto any regular guitar neck and uses the latest low-profile LED technology to show you where to place your fingers on the fretboard, showing you chords, scales or whole songs.
Of course, this technology could actually be very useful for newer players, but I somehow doubt that you will learn how to play guitar in 60 seconds, as stated on their campaign material. But, you can set it for different levels of learning via the Fret Zeppelin App, which you run on your smartphone.
Teaching aid
Initial pledge backing starting at $199 will get you a system. This is an introductory price and is probably in line with around 8 lessons privately from a guitar tutor, so if you haven’t anyone that locally can show you the ropes or cannot get on with YouTube lessons, then this product may be for you.
As someone that runs a regular guitar teaching class every week, I fully understand that not all students learn in the same way. Some of us need a different style of teaching than others and so I think this product may be just what some of my students could benefit from, especially ones who are just starting off.
The designers have spent 5 years developing the system and reckon it will ship in October this year. It will fit any full sized guitar and there is talk on their Kickstarter page of a bass version at some point as well.
