Superbooth 23: UDO Super Gemini 20 Voice Hybrid Synth
British synth manufacturer UDO reveal the Super Gemini, the next synth in their quest to further blur the lines between analog and digital with a 20 voice, dual layer, binaural synth featuring polyphonic aftertouch.
UDO Super Gemini
After the stunning and deserved success of the Super 6, Bristolian synth manufacturer UDO announce the Super Gemini. Taking their innovative and FPGA-based approach to hybrid synthesis, the Super Gemini is much more than a boosted Super 6.
Analogue/Digital Hybrid
The UDO Super Gemini features 20 voices of polyphony, bi-timbrality, a clean and intuitive user interface and a unique custom ribbon sensor. The digital hardware oscillators benefit from wave morphing, bi-directional sync, cross and ring modulation. This is then passed through an all analog signal path. There’s plenty of space to store your patch creations as well as a sequencer and comprehensive effects.
Performance and Design
This is not just a couple of Super 6’s stuck together in the way many manufacturers go when they have a successful synth design on their hands. This is a real step up from what the Super 6 was, both in terms of capability and sheer sonic power. UDO’s binaural design allows for a single voice to be sent independently to the left or right channel. The 20 voices can be bi-timbrally stacked to give you massive layered sounds. The Super Gemini is housed within an aluminium and steel shell.
More Information
The Super Gemini comes across as both a powerful sound design tool as well as a fantastic performance instrument. And if you are going to be at Superbooth this week, you can try this out for yourself at booth B005. As yet, there is no price or shipping date yet but expect updates soon. I think it is safe to assume that George Hearn has another winner on his hands here!
