Superbooth 23: Erica Synths Black Stereo Reverb, Delay 2 and DJ VCF

Running on some new Erica Synths DSP hardware, we have the Black Stereo Reverb and Black Stereo Delay 2. And we have a funky DJ-style filter with the DJ VCF.
Black Stereo Reverb
This new DSP platform has enabled Erica Synths to work with Dutch company 112.dB, with whom it also produced the Steampipe. Erica says 112.dB makes some of the most beautiful sounding effects around.
The Black Stereo Reverb comes with three reverb design types. We have Tap, BBD and Digital. From there we have three modes in Room, Hall and Cathedral. You have dedicated controls over Size, Tone, Feedback and also Spin which controls the stereo imaging. One very cool (geddit!) feature is the Freeze function that turns it into an unconventional granular synth. Everything can be CV controlled, and it has a 1V/Oct input for the granular stuff. You can also store up to 10 presets.
I definitely approve of having all this modular control over an effects engine. And I agree with Erica in that effects are best in their own module rather than as a multi-effects unit.
Black Stereo Delay 2
On the same DSP platform and with a suspiciously identical front panel, we have the Black Stereo Delay 2. I imagine this front panel format will be the interface for many DSP-based modules to follow.
Here we have three delay types; Tape, BBD and Digital, along with three modes for each. This time we have Spread to control the stereo image and controls over Time, Tone and Feedback. The Freeze button becomes a Tap Tempo and we have a Sync input to keep things in time. We can store 10 presets.
I wonder if the firmwares will be interchangeable like we see on some other DSP platforms. That would certainly be an awesome thing.
DJ VCF
I don’t believe this is on the same platform. The DJ VCF is an analogue filter designed for live performance and similar in style to those found on DJ decks. It combines the high and lowpass filtering in a single knob so even a DJ couldn’t mess it up. You’ve got control over the input level and the resonance with two CV inputs to control the cutoff. Nice.
